We can all use some exercise to work off the big meal that we consumed on Thanksgiving! Mia enjoyed two great meals during Thanksgiving. Mia felt guilty after consuming a huge amount of food during Thanksgiving. She decided it was time to start an active lifestyle.

Since Mia owns a dog, she was doing exercise already without realizing it. As a performance enhancement consultant, I would work together with Mia to increase the amount of exercise that she does per week. For example, Mia can increase the amount of time that she walked her dog from 10 minutes to 20 minutes.

Mia struggled to find the motivation to exercise or to do physical activity. Mia would reset her alarm clock to squeeze in one more hour of sleep on most days she tried to work out in the mornings. On days Mia got out of bed, she played games on her tablet for one hour rather than exercise. Mia attempted to increase her motivation to exercise by joining a gym. She canceled two appointments that she had made with a personal trainer for the first two weeks. She dragged herself to the gym inconsistently for one month. Mia went four times during the first week. She went two times on the second week. Mia went three times on the third week. On the fourth week, Mia attempted to force herself to go to the gym by scheduling two appointments with a personal trainer. She made only one trip to the gym and canceled both appointments with the personal trainer.

As a performance enhancement consultant, I offer a solution to help individuals like Mia start exercise today. The solution includes using performance enhancement skills and taking a non-traditional approach to exercise. This means not only thinking of traditional forms of exercise such as running, riding stationary bike, and working out on the elliptical. Some examples of performance enhancement skills include proper goal-setting techniques, strategies to build confidence, and process focus rather than outcome focus. My approach to exercise involves Mia picking activities that she considers fun and enjoyable that requires her to be active.

Need motivation to exercise before holidays in December? External rewards are waiting for us in December. We can get ourselves at least one gift during the holidays in December. To reward ourselves, individuals like Mia must complete the amount of exercise that we our supposed to do on a weekly basis. Examples of rewards include getting a massage, getting expensive coffee machine, or getting a trip to a resort.
